Asilah

Only 40 km south of Tangier, Asilah, the white village surrounded by splendid beaches, is an inevitable cultural and historical encounter. The unpretentious little town of Asilah, seems to be slumbering behind its blue, green and yellow doors. And yet it had a very eventful pas. Asilah has been Roman, Spanish, and Portuguese. Bastions, towers and imposing ramparts now offer the setting for delightful seaside walks and restaurants famous for their fried fish dishes. The richness of Asilah is to be found in it, interesting and cosmopolitan architecture, like the presence of a catholic church in the centre, Palace of Raissouni, masterpiece of its own and of Muslim craftsmanship with its unique position in the town wall and with its astounding inner decorations and because of the outstanding strong cultural richness in this area.

Chefchaouen

The grace and mysterious charm of Chefchaouen have their origin in Hispano-Moorish culture. Its treasures remained hidden and cherished for hundred of years. As night falls on its rose-pink tiles and walls, the town's history stirs. Its winding streets, sparkling fountains and gardens echo with strange and enchanting sounds. It must certainly be one of Morocco's most delightful spots. The blue and white town appears at in the road with its 20 old mosques and sanctuaries. The holy town of Chefchaouen breathes an atmosphere of profound serenity. Walk around the Kasbah, the Medina, the jewish quarter, the berber souk and the artisan quarters.

Tangier

A fascinating introduction to the exciting city and surroundings of Tangier. 10 Km east of Tangier you can reach Cap Malabata by a magnificent road that winds its way up through the hills and long a succession of sandy creeks. And as you look out from the lighthouse, over the water, towards Tangier and the straits of Gibraltar, you are bound to feel the call of the infinite. To the north-west 12 km from Tangier, the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean of Cap Spartel. The straits open on this extreme promontory of the African continent, covered in rock-roses and cork-oaks. A few km further, history becomes confused with legend at the Grottoes of Hercules, gouged out by the perpetual action of waves to resound with ceaseless thunder of the sea. And further on can be seen the Roman remains of the baths and oil mills at Cotta. To the south, at the entrance of the old city square lined with hotels, restaurants and cafés. From the Place de la Kasbah, the highest point in the Medina, you can can visit the Sultan's Palace where every aspect of the Moroccan art can be seen in the rooms round the courtyard.

Tetouan

Further to east from Tangier, stands Tetouan. Hanging on to the side of the Rif, all white. In its setting of verdant green it brings together Arab and Andalousina cultures. A walk through Tetouan, which dominates the green valley of the Martil river. A town with seven magnificently sculpted gateways to choose from as you pass through the ramparts and enter the medina. Look at the ceramics decorating the buildings. The wrought iron balconies on the white houses are typically Spanish. Not surprising, since Tetouan is famous for its Hispano-Moorish architecture. A fine example of which is the Khalifa palace built in the XVIIth. century in the region of Moulay Ismail.
